My name is Maurice, and for the past 30 years, I have worked in behavioral health as a counselor, caregiver, facility manager, and countless other roles. The common thread throughout my career has been a steadfast dedication to serving society’s most vulnerable—the last, the least, and the lost—and helping them rebuild full and productive lives.  

As the COVID-19 pandemic began, I was preparing to open a behavioral health clinic in Denton, Texas, but I wisely postponed those plans when face-to-face visits became impossible. Now, years later, my commitment to the underserved remains unchanged, even as my approach has evolved.  

My company, Affable Giant LLC, is rooted in the principle of “philanthropy, powered by capitalism.” This concept, also known as philanthrocapitalism, applies business metrics, efficiency, and scalability to charitable work. Rather than simply donating to nonprofits or causes, we aim to actively address societal challenges through a hands-on, results-driven approach. By incorporating business practices such as target-setting, cost-benefit analysis, and partnerships with private companies, leaders like Bill Gates and Warren Buffett have shown how to maximize the efficiency and impact of philanthropy.  

I don’t seek to reinvent the wheel. Many service organizations in this area already do excellent work supporting children, women, the elderly, and the homeless. However, they often face budget constraints that limit their reach. Until I have the infrastructure to provide direct services, I will financially support local charities and causes to create an immediate impact in the community.  

One advantage of operating as a business rather than a nonprofit is the ability to make swift decisions without requiring board meetings or votes. This agility allows me to turn ideas into actions quickly and effectively, delegating resources where they are most needed.
